Latvia convicted two agents for Russian-directed sabotage against a defense contractor, involving arson and reconnaissance in 2023-2024.
Latvia convicted two individuals, Denis Lukanenko and Karina Ivanova, for conducting sabotage against PILOT Automotive Labs Europe, a company developing unmanned vehicles, on behalf of a Russian security service. The sabotage included arson of company facilities in fall 2023 and planning to set fire to a truck with Ukrainian license plates at a critical infrastructure site in early 2024. The convicted also performed reconnaissance on other targets, documenting them and sending the information to Russian organizers. In addition, Latvian authorities recently accused four citizens of spying for Russia through an organization linked to the Russian FSB, used for intelligence gathering and psychological operations on Latvian territory.
Confidence: Medium
The convicted individuals conducted sabotage and espionage operations directed by Russian security services targeting a defense company and critical infrastructure in Latvia, constituting hostile hybrid warfare activity.
