Debris from a Russian drone used to attack Ukraine landed in NATO-member Romania near the border with Ukraine in Tulcea County. Two Romanian F-16 jets scrambled from the 86th Air Base in Borcea at 00:16 local time to monitor the situation. Ukrainian air defenses diverted one drone into Romanian airspace, where it crashed about 1.2 miles from Parches in an uninhabited area with no reported casualties or material damage. Romania recorded at least 14 Russian drone incursions since February 2022, with similar entries reported by Poland. Romania authorized shooting down Russian drones last summer and has bolstered defenses near its Ukraine border with troops, radars, and Gepard anti-aircraft systems. NATO leaders emphasize the importance of investing in defense and supporting Ukraine due to security linkages.
