Latvia plans to start production of air missiles with cooperation from Frankenburg Technologies, aiming for first commercial missiles within a year after initial tests in November 2024.
Latvian defense industry plans to initiate production of air missiles through cooperation with Frankenburg Technologies, a company active in Estonia, Ukraine, and Latvia. Initial prototype tests were conducted and under construction. The goal is starting commercial missile production in Latvia within the next year, as of November 14, 2024. This is part of a partnership signed with Riga Technical University to develop missiles capable of shooting down drones. The project aims for rapid development, first producing prototypes in six months and later transitioning to in-house operations. Key figures include Andris Pukitis, missile designer involved since the prototype phase, and Kusti Salm, CEO of Frankenburg Technologies.
Confidence: High
Clear evidence that the event describes a Latvian initiative to produce defensive air missiles with academic and industrial cooperation, representing defense preparation and technological development. No aggressor activity described.
