Lithuania forms a new offensive drone warfare unit named ANBO and plans to acquire over 900 Finnish Patria APCs by 2030 to modernize ground forces.
Lithuania has consolidated its drone capabilities into a new specialized offensive unit called ANBO (Autonomous Remote Unmanned Operations) focused on deep strikes more than 100km into enemy territory. ANBO will test drone prototypes and guide industry, remaining anonymous for security reasons. Lithuania’s Defence Ministry is establishing a civilian department to support these efforts. Over 1,000 drone operators have been trained. Simultaneously, Lithuania's State Defence Council approved the purchase of over 900 Finnish-made six-wheeled Patria armoured personnel carriers, with 300 units expected by 2030. These will replace remaining M113 tracked APCs, many already donated to Ukraine. Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas confirmed these acquisitions will not reduce air defense funding as other procurements were postponed. The Defence Resources Agency is tasked with quickly procuring interceptor drones for testing, with negotiations ongoing to ensure software updates similar to Ukraine’s experience.
Confidence: High
The reported activity concerns formation of defense-specialized drone units and acquisition of armored vehicles to enhance Lithuania's own military capabilities, without evidence of offensive action taken yet.
